Aspects of the Ahaggar Community's Heritage as Depicted in the Writings of European Travelers During the Colonial Period: (Clothing as an Example)

Abstract

This research paper addresses the topic of the manifestations of the heritage of the Ahaggar society through the writings of European travelers during the French colonial period. We took from these cultural expressions the dress as a model that expresses the identity and culture of the Tuareg, as it is a civilizational heritage par excellence that was passed down through generations, and they tried to preserve it, as Tuareg families, men, women and young children, adhered to it. It was present in all their movements and travels, and this is what made the Western writings focus on these cultures and patterns of the tribes and follow their lifestyle and dress in a precise and detailed manner.
